Still Haunted

Still Haunted is a series of augmented reality works on still life paintings in the 19th century collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. The shift from the religious to scientific cosmology that characterizes modernity is implicated in the perfectly contained and controlled scientific study of inanimate objects, suggesting a permanence and rigidity that belies any search for quantifiable truth. Augmented reality videos are imposed onto the paintings, performatively interjecting relics from the present onto those of the past.
